The hosting of the 2012 London Games has been described as the country's largest peacetime operation.
There will be over 10,500 athletes from over 200 nations competing in 26 different sports. There will be coaches, trainers and support staff and an army from the world's media to record the event.
Over the 16 days of the Olympic Games 8.8 million spectator tickets will be available. The Paralympic Games follows the Olympics and is also one of the largest sporting events in the world providing competition for 4,000 athletes with disabilities. Nearly two million tickets will be available over the 11 days of the Games.
